Despite plans of the national government to declare general community quarantine (GCQ) in some areas in Central Luzon, Governor Albert Garcia would rather want his province to stay in an enhanced community quarantine during that time.

In a letter to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Eduardo Año, Garcia said that he is requesting the retention of the ECQ status in Bataan until 31 May.

The Palace earlier stated that Bataan will be placed under GCQ along with areas in Central Luzon such as Zambales, Olongapo, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Angeles City, and Bulacan.

Garcia said that the reason for this is to first conduct a mass testing in the province before lifting the ECQ.

Mayors from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Bataan have shown support for the planned extension of ECQ in the province.

Currently, there are 11 cases of Covid-19 in the province, with 42 recoveries and give fatalities.
