Duterte to NEDA: Fast track national ID system

Francis Wakefield

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque on Tuesday said that acting National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Dr. Karl Kendrick T. Chua has been mandated by President Rodrigo Duterte to fast track the implementation of the national ID system and the coronavirus disease recovery plan for the country.

Roque said that the President has instructed Chua to make sure that the national ID system will be implemented and that the agency should come up with a COVID-19 recovery plan while executing by an investment coordination committee the Build, Build, Build projects of the government.

In a recent public address to the nation, the President expressed belief that the distribution of government cash aids to people affected by the implementation of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) would have been much easier if the national ID system has already been implemented.

Chua — who is also an undersecretary of the Department of Finance (DoF) — was named as acting Socioeconomic Planning Secretary last Friday, 17 April following Secretary Ernesto Pernia’s resignation.
