Selling of government assets?

It’s an option, President Rodrigo Duterte said, if it would mean keeping the country afloat as the government deals with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The President said there are assets and real estate properties the government can dispose of.

“What is the endgame? ‘Pag maubos talaga ang pera, ipabili ko lahat ng propiedad ng gobyerno,” Duterte said during a televised address Wednesday.

“Iyang Cultural Center, PICC, ‘yung lupa diyan, totoo, that’s the last…’Pag wala na akong makuha and we are about to sink and really sink, I will sell all the assets of government tapos itulong ko sa tao. Ibibigay ko sa inyo ‘yan. And do not worry about the money,” he added.

The President has P275 billion at his disposal under the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act but the government will keep looking for additional sources of funds.
