The concerns of business corporations are secondary to the challenge of feeding the people, tycoon Enrique Razon said.
In an interview with business news agency Bloomberg, the chair of global port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), said the Luzon lockdown extension until 30 April was the right government move and ICTSI is helping the government make the effort succeed by focusing on moving of goods.
“We’re focused on that round the clock,” Razon noted. “I think most governments were taken by surprise by the outbreak. But the more important concern is feeding the people. I think the concerns of businesses are secondary at this point.”
Moreover, he said that the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine should be well studied.
“The thing is just to keep the economy flowing, goods flowing, get the infection rate down and we’ll see about lifting the lockdown. Lifting lockdowns at this environment is going to be very tricky,” Razon noted.
“I mean, there has to be a plan. It’s just not one day to the next. So I think a lot of people are underestimating what this is really going to take.”
