Soldiers of 46th Infantry Battalion based in Calbiga, Samar found on Monday four improvised explosive devices on a trail connecting two villages of the said town in what could have been an ambush attempt against soldiers serving as frontliners amid the community quarantine.

The 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan City said concerned civilians in the area reported that the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army are planning to conduct an ambush, targeting members of 46IB who are serving as frontliners.

Major General Pio Q. Diñoso III, Commander of 8ID, said this latest attempt of the communist group to sow terror is condemnable especially that it is done when there is an existing ceasefire due to the prevailing health emergency worldwide.

The four IED were found on the only trail connecting barangays Hubasan and Binanggaran in Calbiga town, averting an ambush similar to what happened in Borongan City last December that killed over a dozen of policemen and civilians.
