Sharon Cuneta clapped back at netizens questioning her relief efforts.
Last 2 April, the Megastar posted a photo of Angel Locsin on her Instagram account. Her caption goes, “Mabuhay ka, Angel Locsin, sa pagpapatayo mo ng tents para sa ating mga bayaning frontliners na kailangan pa nating lahat na pasalamatan ng one million times more than we’ve been thanking them (Long live Angel Locsin for having tents built for our frontline heroes whom we need to thank for a million times more than we’ve been thanking them).”
In said post, netizens were quick to ask Shawie why she just keeps on praising other celebrities, yet not undertaking her own relief efforts for people affected by COVID-19.
A commenter wrote,“Kung walang mahirap na pumila sa iyong mga movies, bumili ng plaka at CDs mo ay walang Megastar ngayon (If there were no less fortunate people who lined up for your movies and bought your records, there would be no Megastar today).”
This triggered Sharonians to come after the commenter by defending their idol. Meanwhile, the Megastar answered gracefully by mediating a looming fight between her commenters, telling them, “Wala lang siyang alam sa mga ginagawa ko kasi di ko pinapaalam kaya di niya fault (It’s not her fault because I do not talk about my efforts to help).”
Other netizens also dragged Sharon’s husband, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, into the fray.
A commenter asked, “Ang asawa nyo nasaan? Di ba po kami ang public at siya ang servant? Pero nasaan po siya? (Where’s your husband? Aren’t we the public and he, the servant? But where is he)?”
This prompted the veteran star to retort, “Ayun siya, tumutulong ng walang press release katulad naming lahat (There he is, helping without press releases like all of us).”
The Megastar also asked the commenter the same question, “May naitulong po kayo, kahit isang mask o alcohol bottle lang (Have you done any help, at least giving out one mask or one bottle of alcohol)?”
The Megastar unhesitatingly replied with the same answer, saying their family is consistently helping without the need of publicity.
Angel Locsin affirmed Megastar’s comment by saying, “Thank you for reaching out to help.”
Recently, Frankie Pangilinan made the rounds on social media as she assured people that they will sponsor the P15,000 bail of the 21 San Roque citizens, who were detained for protesting for food rations.
Senator Kiko and Sharon’s first daughter shared that she will sponsor one individual while the 20 remaining will be shouldered by her parents.
The star-studded Pangilinan family is used to these kinds of scenarios. They are accustomed to bashers, but they are humans, too. There are times they cannot let bashers get away with insensitivity.
