Wearing masks or other kinds of face shield will now be mandatory for persons going out to buy food, medicines and other essential items, another move to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Cabinet Secretary and Inter-Agency-Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said in a press briefing on Thursday that areas placed under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) must adopt the policy.
Mandatory wearing of face masks, earloop masks, indigenous, reusable or do-it-yourself masks, face shields, handkerchiefs or such other protective equipment can effectively lessen the transmission of COVID-19, Nograles said.
Local government units will issue the necessary executive orders or ordinances that will include imposition of penalites as may be appropriate.
