Malasakit Center not depository of donations

Malasakit Center godfather Senator Bong Go slammed fake information that the one-stop shop for indigent patients is stalling the release of equipment intended for hospitals fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

At the same time, Go said the center is out of the loop as far as consolidating donations is concerned.

Under President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive, Go said it is the Office of Civil Defense, under the Department of National Defense, that will consolidate donations of medical supplies and equipment intended for the national government and the Department of Health, which will distribute the items.

Go said he fully knows his duties as a senator and he will continue to be of service to Filipinos.

“We act as a bridge to connect the private sector to the right agencies to address their concerns and, at the same time, we also help those asking for assistance by connecting them to the appropriate public or private entities that can respond to their needs,” said Go.

In the fight against Covid-19, Go said private donors ask for his assistance in donating food packs, PPEs, medical equipment and other items for frontliners, hospitals and communities. He said he merely sets up donors and their beneficiaries.

“We help private donors who approach us in finding the right beneficiaries and vice versa.

With the country immersed in fighting the virus, Go said spreading fake news worsens the crisis.

“Let me state this in very clear and unmistakable language: claims circulating that I am involved in handling donations intended for the government are utterly false, deliberate disinformation and black propaganda,” Go stated.

His advice to purveyors of fake news?

“If you cannot help, just quarantine your mouth! ”
