Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Wednesday announced that it is up to the other members of the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) if they will undergo COVID-19 testing after Interior Secretary Eduardo Año — who is a member of the task force — confirmed that he tested positive for the virus.
In a press briefing, Nograles – who is also the IATF spokesman — said it is the discretion of each and every member of the IATF to get themselves tested especially if they are already feeling symptoms related to the deadly virus.
At the same time, Nograles also said that it is up to President Rodrigo Duterte if he will also undergo another round of testing, adding that he has already isolated himself since 26 March to ensure the safety of his love ones and has not yet felt any symptoms pertaining to COVID-19.
Nograles said Secretary Año is the first member of the Cabinet to contract the COVID-19 virus — a painful reminder that the virus can infect anyone and is blind to age, gender, title, and station.
“This sobering news also hammers home the point that those working and leading from the front, like Sec. Año, are the ones most vulnerable to the disease,” Nograles said.
