National government agencies have been tasked to identify and convert vessels, hotels, convention centers and sports complexes into quarantine facilities for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients and persons under investigation or under monitoring for possible COVID-19 infection.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Tuesday in a virtual press briefing that the Department of Transportation was tasked by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases to identify and refurbish vessels into quarantine facilities while the Department of Tourism was tasked to identify hotels and similar establishments in different regions that can be converted into the same facilities.
Nograles also said the Department of Public Works and Highways was tasked to coordinate with concerned organizations in converting the Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and other similar facilities into fully functional quarantine and isolation centers.
Local government units were tasked to look for and fix designated quarantine facilities in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Health.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Quarantine was tasked to assess buildings identified for conversion into quarantine facilities.
