President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday declared the suspension of air and sea travel to and from Metro Manila from 15 March to 15 April to fight the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019).
“Domestic air and sea travel to and from Metro Manila shall be suspended from 15 March 2020 to 15 April 2020, subject to the daily review of the Inter-Agency Task Force,” Duterte said in his televised public speech.
Duterte said mass public transport, including the LRT, MRT and PNR trains shall continue in operation, provided the Department of Transportation shall issue guidelines to ensure social distancing.
The President urged the public to not panic.
“Huwag kayong masyadong ma-stress na parang hindi mo na magawa ang gusto mong gawin. Pwede pa rin pero may restrictions tayo, may mga kondisyon dahil nga sa crisis,” he said.
Duterte also urged the people to make themselves healthier to protect themselves from infection.
“It’s a virus, ang panglaban lang natin diyan ‘yung katawan natin na medyo ano ka in good health na walang sakit. Iyong medyo mahina, make yourself healthier by whatever means maybe food, vitamins. But most of all, try to obey what government is suggesting or ordering you to do,” said Duterte.
