Actress Kim Chiu on Wednesday was puzzled over the intent of a pair of shooters who peppered her van with bullets in Quezon City, with police sources surmising the “Chinita Princess” could have been a victim of mistaken identity.
Chiu, born Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu and a reality show winner who also dabbles in singing and hosting, was unhurt after the two shooters, aboard a motorbike, fired at her van—a black Hyundai H350 (GAF 6474)—six times past 6 a.m. yesterday near the University Town Center in Katipunan, Q.C.
Also escaping the incident unscathed were her driver and personal assistant.
Chiu said she was asleep on her way to a “shooting assignment” when they were fired upon by the duo.
“Thank you for checking on me. Means a lot,” Kim posted on Instagram. “Yes I am safe. I’m okay and my P.A. and my driver as well. Papa Jesus protected us.”
“A lot of you have been texting and calling. Can’t answer right now. I don’t have an idea what really happened. Mistaken identity? I guess,” she said. “This is a bad joke. I was shocked and (I) asked my driver what happened.”
“Then I saw this bullet on the windshield where my head was. I was lucky I was lying down (when shot at),” she added.
The actress’ driver Wilfredo Taperla, 45, said two men wearing black helmets and jackets, came from behind their van and started shooting.
He said the attack happened at the corner of CP Garcia and Katipunan Avenues, near the stoplight intersection of the thoroughfares busy with morning rush-hour traffic.
Fellow celebrities and netizens extended their concern for the actress, with some calling her a “professional” and “badass.” The hashtag #kimchiu trended on Twitter Philippines.
Chiu reportedly went straight to her taping after the incident aboard another vehicle. The actress currently stars in the nightly soap “Love Thy Woman.”
