The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Catbalogan City is now investigating the killing of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Officer of Gandara town in Samar who was shot dead early morning Tuesday.
Authorities identified the victim as Alvin Estrelles, 47, a resident of Adela Heights in Gandara town where he also serves as the MDRRMO chief and initial reports indicate that Estrelles was onboard his motorcycle on his way home coming from the town market when the shooting happened.
Upon reaching the area near the town cemetery, a white sports car without a plate number suddenly appeared on his way and two men wearing bonnets disembarked from the vehicle and fired their guns on the victim.
The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died right at the crime scene. At least 34 empty shells of M16 armalite bullets were recovered in the crime scene by the responding police investigators.
Gandara Police deputy chief of operations Corporal Dondel Aleco revealed that Estrelles is a former drug surrenderer and is included in its High Value Target drug watchlist personality.
