Ermita cable thieves arrested

Operatives of the Manila Police District-Special Mayors Reaction Team arrested two persons believed to be responsible for stealing the copper wire from street lights in Ermita, Manila.

Reynaldo Tindog, a contractor of the City Engineering Office, advised of the pilferage City Engineer Arman Andres, who sought the help of barangay officials in Ermita.

With the help of officials of Barangay 678, Zone 73, the suspects were caught in the act of cutting cables from lamp posts at the corner of Taft Avenue and Apacible Street.

This led to the arrest of two of the three suspects, identified as Mark Christian Leonero, alias “Tsuptsup,” 19, of San Andres Street, Malate, and Jericho Mance, alias “Jepoy,” 26, of President Quirino Avenue, Malate. Another suspect managed to escape.

Confiscated from them were three pieces of eight-meter electrical cable, a metal saw and pliers. Also recovered were five pieces of Panaflex wire that has 200 pairs of silicon wire.

Police are continuing the manhunt of the third suspect, while those arrested are now detained at the SMaRT office. They will be slapped with charges of theft at Manila City Prosecutors Office.
