A retired police officer was mauled by 10 men following an unexplained altercation last Saturday night in Caloocan City.

Police identified the victim as Ariel Benzon, 54, a former policeman, who confronted a group of jeepney drivers at the corner of Asistio and B. Serrano streets, Barangay 89 in Caloocan City.

Two of the 10 suspects had been identified, namely Richard Mahilom, 33, and Jonel Bentor, 37, while the others have yet to be named.

Reports said the suspects conspired to harm Benzon, causing him to sustain a head injury.

During the commotion, the suspects took the victim’s service firearm, a .45 caliber pistol.

Upon arrest, the suspects voluntarily surrendered the victim’s firearm at the special investigation unit office for safekeeping.

They will be charged with attempted homicide by mauling.
