Joint operations of government forces led to the killing of a female regional leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Makilala, North Cotabato, the military reported Saturday.
Juanita Gore Tacadao, alias Isay/Maring, was killed after she and her comrades engaged operatives of the Philippine Army’s 39th Infantry Division and Makilala Police Office in a firefight last Friday in Barangay Malabuan of the said town.
Tacadao was said to be the regional head and logistics and finance chief of the Far South Mindanao unit of the NPA.
The troops were about to serve warrants for her arrest issued by two regional trial courts in Davao del Sur and North Cotabato for murder and robbery when the clash ensued.
Other members of Tacadao’s group fled in different directions following the incident.
Recovered from the encounter site were one M14 rifle, one caliber .38 pistol, one International Humanitarian Law banned landmine, two blasting caps and a detonating cord.
Follow-up operations by the military led to the discovery of their hideout in Sitio Blazan, Malawanit, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
A sweep of the premises yielded one M16 rifle, one homemade 12-gauge shot gun, one hand grenade and 40mm ammunition, food supplies, personal belongings and subversive documents.
