Cuyegkengs surge ahead

Ernest Cuyegkeng and Ian Cuyegkeng surged into the solo lead after two days in the 50th Golden Tee Invitational golf team championships Wednesday at the Manila Golf Club.

Ernest, a 35-handicapper, posted 42 points while Ian added 39 as the pair collected a total of 131 points, including 50 in best ball.

Rene Domingo-Joseph Tan combined for 130 to tie first round leader Robert Colombo-Michael Kho for second place.

Rounding out the top five were Martin Zamora-Rommel Ibuna 128 and Koichi Ishihara-Ramon Briones 126.

In overall gross play, Santiago Lorenzo-Abe Rosal hung on to the lead with 109, seven points ahead of Antonio Payumo and Raymund Sangil.

J. Miguel Velasco-Lorenzo Guerrero was next with 100 followed by John Paul Reyes-Ace Stehmeier and Luisa Lorenzo-Gaby Monfort with 99 and 92, respectively.

The Division 1 contest was close.

Domingo-Tan was ahead with 130, just two points clear of Zamora-Ibuna.

Running third was Yasuhiro Matsumoto-Kazumi Saito with 124 followed by Jonathan Lim-Rainier Jacinto and Velasco-Guerrero with 121 apiece.

In Division 2, Ishihara-Briones was the leader with 126, two points in front of Jean Henri Lhuillier-Richard Santos. In third place was Joseph Sy-Willy Chik with 122.

The next three places were taken by Samuel Tiu-Liberato Tan 121, Makoto Totsuka-Mike Ozatea 119 and Robert Vergara-Winston Mapua 119.

The Cuyegkengs led Division 3 with Colombo-Kho just a point behind.

They were followed by Angelino Villanueva-Antonio Atienza 118, Jose Oscar Salvacion-Senen Salvacion 116 and Alexander Lichaytoo-Benjamin Yam 116.

In the battle for the individual gross title, Antonio Payumo was up with 36 points, a point ahead of Raffy Juan.
