Around P68 million worth of crystal meth, or shabu, were seized from a Nigerian and his African companion on Tuesday in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Quezon.
Initial reports submitted by the operatives to PDEA director General Aaron Aquino identified the foreign suspects as Lawrence Ikegwuruka, from Nigeria, and Michella Augustin from Madagascar, who were found to be in possession of 10 kilograms of the contraband.
They were collared by PDEA agents and policemen from Quezon City Police Department (QCPD) Station 10 around 10am yesterday morning in Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City.
A PDEA agent reportedly acted as a poseur buyer and negotiated with the suspects until they agreed on a place for the drugs sale.
The narcotics peddlers were arrested soon as they and the agent exchanged money and the goods.
The suspects are now in custody at the PDEA headquarters where they are awaiting to be formally charged foe violating Section 5 (Sale of Illegal Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), of Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
