CdO eyes end to armed conflict

The local government of Cagayan de Oro(CDO) City successfully launched “Kalinae ug Kalambuan Atong Kaakuhan,” a task force aimed at ending the local communist armed conflict in its locality.
Held on 7 February, the kick off of the initiative, also known as the Cagayan de Oro City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (CDOCTF-ELCAC), was led by city mayor, Hon. Oscar Moreno, and attended by Communications chief and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Region 10, Secretary Martin Andanar; Undersecretaries Reynaldo Mapagu of Civil, Veterans and Retiree Affairs; deputy director general and chief of staff of National Security Council Bernardo Florece Jr; and chairman of Taskforce Balik-Loob Rufino Lopez Jr.

Also present were senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), headed by Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief, Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr., Commander; 4th Infantry Division commandet, Maj. Gen. Franco Nemesio Gacal; and BGen. Edgardo de Leon, 403rd Brigade chief.

Said activity was highlighted by the inauguration of newly-paved and opened roads, groundbreaking of the Oro Kalandang (Kalinaw) Center, a half-way house for the former rebels, awarding of cash for the firearms remuneration of the former rebels and turnover of a one-unit tractor to the 65th Infantry Battalion intended for the Community Support Program.

Various local government agencies and the 4ID also brought their respective services to the people of barangay Tignapoloan and its neighboring barangays which included medical and dental services, distribution of livelihood starter kits, sleeping kits, food packs, water jugs, free legal advices, registration of voters, free haircut and massage, vaccination and livestock and seedlings dispersal.

“Let us continue to work together to fulfill our shared agenda of inclusive and sustainable peace and development in Northern Mindanao,” Andanar expressed.
