Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Gamboa yesterday led the destruction of several video karera (VK) machines at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Headquarters in Camp Karingal in Quezon City.

QCPD director PBrig. Gen. Ronnie Montejo said the 56 VK machines were seized during the intensified anti-illegal gambling operations conducted by Quezon City’s 12 police stations and other units.

Gamboa was at the QCPD for a command visit. He also graced the cascading of the Interfaith Squad System Manual, as part of the reinvigorated internal cleansing program of the PNP.

Montejo commended his officers and men for their relentless effort in the conduct of the anti-illegal gambling operations, which yielded significant arrests and confiscation of paraphernalia.

He called on the public to stop engaging in any form of illegal gambling to make a positive impact, especially in the city’s peace and order situation.

“I would like to thank the public for their continued support for our campaign against illegal activities, such as drugs and gambling. We encourage the public to report with the police anyone who commits anything illegal,” Montejo said.

Aside from the confiscated illegal gambling machines, the QCPD chief said several gambling paraphernalia and bet money amounting to P15,363 were confiscated from 91 violators.

He explained that video karera is a form of illegal gambling using an arcade machine that allows to bet on a horse race.

Montejo pointed out that no less than Gamboa and the QC mayor ordered an intensified crackdown against all forms of illegal gambling and even prostitution dens in the city.
He said as per PNP chief’s directive, they will be more aggressive in the fight against illegal gambling.
