Rising stars sparkled as they ruled the Malaysian edition of the Riders Tour at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Lara Zobel, Paola Lorenzo, Nicole Camcam, Mohamed Ed Akkad, Alex Ynares-Villalon and Minxie Rodriguez shone in their respective events in this prestigious tourney that was first held at the Manila Polo Club last September.
Zobel dominated the 1.10-meter category to emerge as the Best Rider of the Tournament while Camcam sizzled in the 1.00-meter category en route to claiming the Sportsmanship Award.
Also submitting fine performances were Lorenzo in the 1.20-meter category, El Akkad in the .90-meter category, Ynares-Villalon in the .80-meter category and Romualdes in the .70-meter category.
They prevailed over Malaysian squads composed of various local riders ranging from young equestrians to embers of military who are in active mounted duty.
Prior to the actual competition, they were given 30 minutes to familiarize themselves with the horses that were provided by the local organizing body. Then, they were given another five minutes for the test round before plunging in the actual competition, a format that was conceptualized by Equestrian Philippines, Inc. during the tourney’s previous staging in Manila last year.
With that, Filipino riders registered fault-free scores while Malaysia Team A finished with four faults and Malaysia Team B had 20 faults.
Lorenzo, Zobel and Ynares-Villalon claimed the top honors in their respective categories while Camcam took the second place and El Akkad emerged with third.
