A soldier was killed while two policemen were seriously wounded in a shooting incident in Marikina City Friday morning.

The shootout between the soldier and the cops occurred at about 11:30 a.m. along A. Bonifacio Avenue corner Riverbanks Avenue in Barangay Barangka, Marikina police chief Resituto Arcangel said.

Initial investigation showed that Police Executive Master Sergeant (formerly called Senior Police Officer 4) Demetrio Magpali and Police Staff Sergeant (Police Officer 3) Edward Yap, both assigned at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Camp Crame, Quezon City, were riding a motorcycle along A. Bonifacio Avenue and turning left going to Riverbanks Avenue when Staff Sergeant Marvin Balucas, an enlisted Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel, opened fire at them.

Yap was hit in the different parts of his body.

Magpali returned fire at Balucas killing him instantly.

Magpali and Yap were brought to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center for treatment but were later transferred to the Chinese General Hospital.

Magpali sustained gunshot wound on his left lower leg while Yap sustained gunshot wound on his right head, right chest, left lower quadrant and left flank area. Balucas was declared dead on arrival.

Marikina police are now conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
