As Congress moved to hike the budget of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), the agency said the P6.2 billion increase it expects from this year’s fund will be allocated for the improvement of hardware elements.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Sonny Angara said that the DICT’s additional P6.2 billion will be on top of the additional P3.7 billion under the National Expenditure Program sent by Malacañang to Congress.

Angara said agency is expected to strengthen its capability to improve the digital space by creating the infrastructure for a national government data center which will house its hardware facilities.

The lawmaker explained that the national government data center will serve as launching point for many government services such as cloud computing, web hosting, server colocation and other operations.
