University of Perpetual Help System Dalta banked on the exploits of Jhona Rosal to trounce the pesky Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 14-25, 17-15, in Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Rosal tallied 19 points to lift the Lady Altas to 2-1 win-loss record and hand the Lady Pirates their third straight loss in as many games.
Veteran opposite hitter Bianca Tripoli also had 19 markers for last year’s runner-up.
“With this win, I can see a lot of improvements from my players compared to our previous game against San Sebastian,” Perpetual head coach Macky Carino said.
“But we have to be consistent and prepare better for our next game against Mapua. This is still a long tournament,” he added.
The Lady Altas recovered from an opening-set loss and took the next two frames to move closer to the victory.
But Lyceum had other plans and pulled off an impressive 25-14 win to force a deciding fifth set.
With the game tied at 5-all, Hannah Suico anchored Perpetual’s crucial 4-1 exchange to give the Lady Altas a 9-6 advantage.
Tripoli attack at the baseline gave Perpetual a 14-13 lead but wasted the chance to seal the win after committing a service error for a 15-all mark.
Lyceum’s middle blocker Jacqueline Acuna miscalculated her attack as it went wide then Rosal sealed the win with a kill to end the match.
