College of St. Benilde (CSB) shoots for the solo lead as it faces Letran College in the opening game of Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women’s volleyball tournament today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Blazers gun for their third straight win against the Lady Knights at 12 noon while Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) and Mapua University seek their first win of the season as they clash at 2 in the afternoon.

CSB is coming off a hard-earned win against the Lyceum of the Philippines University, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 15-7, that put them in a tie with defending champion Arellano University at the top with identical 2-0 win-loss slates.

Rookies Gayle Pascual and Mycah provided the spunk for the Lady Blazers in surviving the five-set thriller to hand the Lady Pirates their second straight loss.

Pascual had 18 points while Go finished with 17 markers on top of six digs and 17 successful receptions.

CSB head coach Jerry Yee is wary of Letran, which beat EAC, 22-25, 25-10, 25-18, 25-13, on its opening match.

“From here, we are hoping that we can sustain the momentum and go on and win our next games,” Yee said.

“But Letran is also a great contender and we have to prepare really hard for them and now, we will go back to the drawing board to see what we need to improve on,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Lady Generals and the Lady Cardinals try to enter the win column.

EAC lost its opening game to Letran while Mapua was walloped by the Lady Chiefs, I straight sets, 13-25, 20-25, 12-25.
