President Rodrigo Duterte has named Major General Allen T. Paredes as the new commanding general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to replace the retiring Lt. Gen. Rozzano D. Briguez.
 
In a letter sent to Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, the President informed him that his letter-endorsement has been approved and that Paredes has been appointed as the 37th Commanding General of PAF.
“I wish to inform you that, per you letter-endorsement and in accordance with the recommendations of the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Chairman, AFP Board of Generals, pursuant to Republic Act 8186, as amended, the designation of Major General Allen T. Paredes O-9850 Armed Forces Philippines as Commanding General, Philippine Air Force, Vice Lt. Gen. Rozzano D. Briguez O-9474 AFP is hereby approved effective 17 January 2020,” the President said in his letter dated 15 January 2020.
The  PAF change of command and retirement ceremony will take place at the PAF Gymnasium in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City, on Thursday, 16 January 2020.
Paredes, a member of Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988, is currently the commander of the PAF’s Air Logistics Command based in Clark Air Base, Angeles City, Pampanga.
Briguez, who was appointed as PAF chief on 5 December 2018, is set to retire from the military service on Friday, 17 January, 2020 at the age of 56. 
 
In a phone interview, Major Aristides Galang, PAF spokesman, described Paredes as competent and an outstanding officer who is very much capable of leading the 18,000 plus-strong service command.
