Some 7,000 families were affected by Sunday’s phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported Tuesday.
In its 6 a.m. bulletin, the NDRRMC said that a total of 6,891 families or 30, 423 individuals were affected in Cavite and Batangas with 4,175 families or 18,187 people taking temporary shelter.
A total of 118 evacuation centers were set up in various areas in the Calabarzon Region including Lian, Alitagtag and Sto. Tomas in Batangas province.
Three road sections—Tanauan-Talisay-Tagaytay Road, Tagaytay-Taal Lake Road and Tagaytay-Talisay Road—were closed due to the ashfall.
The Tagaytay-Talisay and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay sections have been re-opened as of Tuesday morning.
Work and classes remained suspended in Calabarzon (Region IV-A) while the entire province of Batangas is under a state of calamity.
