The national kickboxing team came up with a strong finish when it bagged one gold and two silver medals in the kickboxing competition of the 30th Southeast Asian Games late Monday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Jerry Olsim delivered his promise as he won the gold medal while Jomar Balagui and Raquel Daquel plucked silver medals in their respective divisions.

Olsim, the pride of Benguet, crushed Klinming Sarayut of Thailand to rule the -69kg light kick category and clinch he Filipinos’ first and only mint in the sport.

Then, Daquel faltered to Nguyen Thi Hang Nga of Vietnam, 1-2, in the women’s -48kg full contact while Balagui bowed to Phan Ba Hoi of Vietnam, 1-2, in the men’s -54kg low kick event.

The Nationals still have two more shots at the gold when Gina Iniong and Jean Claude Saclag see action in the women’s -55kg kick light category and men’s -63kg low kick class, respectively on Tuesday.
