It was Rubilen Amit’s time to shine in the billiards event as she defeated compatriot Chezka Centeno, 7-3, in the 9-ball singles finals as the duo fashioned a gold and silver medal finish in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at the Manila Hotel Tent.
Amit bucked an early 3-1 advantage by Centeno, scoring six successive points en route to the victory as Centeno conceded the match in the final rack.
It seemed like a repeat of their 10-ball singles encounter the day before where Centeno was the one who emerged with the gold as Amit conceded to settle with the silver.
Even the final score was the same, 7-3.
But Amit said she had other things on her mind coming into the match for both her and Centeno.
“Ang iniisip ko, we’re going to the World Championship in a few days so yung laban na ito, this is good practice. I’m very happy with the performance,” Amit said, alluding to the upcoming WPA World 9-ball Championships.
The pair will continue to see action in the SEA Games to hunt for a second gold medal finish as they are also in the semifinals of the 9-ball doubles event after winning this morning over Thailand’s Kongkaket Vutthiphan and Wannaprathip Sasiwimon, 7-6.
