It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas indeed!
With only a few days before we celebrate the greatest annual party, the majority of Filipinos still have not completed their Christmas shopping. This is quite ironic since the Philippines is known for the longest celebration of the Yuletide with preparations starting as soon as the “Ber” months approach.
But the irony of ironies is that, statistically, 43 percent of Filipinos do their Christmas shopping in December in a mad dash to the malls to perform their last-minute bargain-hunting. A mere seven percent starts buying gifts in September.
These data are supported by online voucher platform Picodi, which shows that nearly half of Filipino shoppers wait until the 11th hour to scramble for their holiday lists.
According to experts, the busy schedule and hectic routine are some of the reasons people cram by delaying their Yuletide errands. A good number tends to procrastinate in buying holiday gifts, waiting until it’s almost too late to realize it’s only a week before Christmas.
Others wait until their company releases the seasonal cash bonuses and the mandatory 13th month pay. The traditional mall sales in the last month of the year also encourages shopping stragglers who are looking to get the most for their money.
In this pre-Christmas issue, we offer you shopping guide tips, how to look glamorous without hurting your wallet, a step-by-step compendium to looking incredible in this party season and gift ideas that support the local industry.
