Are you always thinking of how best to give back to the community especially come Christmastime? Well, you can kickstart your gift-giving, and enjoy fun workouts to boot, at Electric Studio’s annual Ride for Smiles challenge.
Currently on its third run, Electric Studio’s challenge benefits Smile Train Philippines and raises awareness for children with clefts. Riders can sign up for Ride for Smiles and pledge 10, 15 or 20 rides within 30 days in any of the studio’s branches in Bonifacio Global City, Makati, and Ortigas. All pledged classes will count towards a donation to Smile Train. (Riders get rewarded with prizes, too!) The proceeds from the challenge will support treatments for Smile Train beneficiaries nationwide.
Ride for a cause
Cleft lip and/or palate is the number one birth defect in most developing countries. It is estimated that around 5,000 Filipino children with clefts are born in the country each year.
Smile Train provides free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children in developing nations. It advances a sustainable solution and scalable model to treat clefts through partnerships with hospitals and training programs with local doctors.
More than 50,000 children have had their lives — as well as their ability to eat, breathe and speak — drastically improved through the organization’s free cleft surgeries in the Philippines since 2001.
Electric Studio is a boutique indoor cycling studio that cultivates a cooperative and encouraging environment. Classes are led by instructors who create motivational playlists with the aim of empowering each rider’s body, mind and spirit.
“As we work together as one Electric Studio family, we hope to inspire more members to not only take care of themselves but to also help bring forever smiles to more children in need,” says Kristina Sy, Electric Studio co-founder and CEO. “We hope more riders will join our mission and ride with us in order to raise more funds to help children with clefts around the country.”
“We encourage the community to do what they love while also helping transform the lives of children by giving them the power of a smile,” adds Smile Train area director for South East Asia Kimmy Coseteng-Flaviano.
Empowerment beyond the bike
The Ride for Smiles challenge is from 12 November to 11 December 2019. Apart from the donation by Electric Studio and its sponsors, other establishments such as Seda Hotels, Oracare Mouthrinse, Burt’s Bees, Rudy Project, Nescafe Dolce Gusto, Refinery and Sparrow Fragrances have also committed to provide free rides and gifts for the support of the riders.
