It was a sweep for all three defending champions as Season 50 of the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) concluded its basketball event over the weekend.
Centro Escolar University snared an impressive ninth straight seniors crown by overwhelming hard-fighting San Beda College Alabang, 86-61, on Saturday at the St. Stephen’s High School gym, and 79-36 the following day at the University of Makati gym.
Chiang Kai Shek College likewise did not give De La Salle Zobel any chances, posting 94-27 and 83-48 wins in the junior division for its fourth straight championship.
La Salle College Antipolo settled for third after stopping Miriam College, 61-42.
In the midgets level, Miriam completed a three-peat after beating St. Paul College Pasig two in a row, 57-56 and 57-43.
Adjudged Most Valuable Players were CEU’s Jenina Ann Solis (season) and Opeyemi Lawan (finals) in the seniors level; CKSC’s Karl Ann Pingol (season) and Kristine Cayabyab (finals) in juniors play; and Miriam’s Maria Graciella Reyes in the midgets level.
In the volleyball tournament, it will be another CEU-San Beda tiff as the defending champion Lady Scorpions try to keep their championship against the Red Lions. The best-of-three finals begins Sunday, 24 November.
The midgets semifinals on Saturday, 23 November, at the St. Scholastica’s College gym will pit top-ranked DLSZ against Miriam at 8 a.m. and No. 2 Assumption Antipolo versus holder St. Paul at 9 a.m.
The juniors Final Four follows at 10 a.m. between defending champion DLSZ and St. Scholastica and CKSC against San Beda at 11:30 a.m.
