Team Shine completed a come-from-behind victory to frustrate Team Sparkle, 15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 17-15, in the Philippine Superliga Super Cup yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Down by four, 10-14, Team Shine tied the contest 14-14 before Fritz Gallenero gave Team Sparkle the match point, 15-14.
Eli Soyud and MJ Philips scored on attacks, sandwiching Grethcel Soltones’ error to seal the win for Team Shine.
“Our pride is at stake,” said Team Shine coach Ray Karl Dimaculangan. “Although this is only a pocket tournament, we want to finish strong.”
The tourney that has Summit Hotel as official residence and Foton as official vehicle is the league’s initiative to help the national women’s squad in its preparation for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
The Nationals, however, are still clashing with University of Tsukuba as of press time.
