The Supreme Court en banc is releasing the report on the ballot recount in three provinces to the camps of Vice President Leni Robredo and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. for their comment.
SC Public Information Officer Brian Keith Hosaka announced the decision of the SC in connection with the petition of Marcos to overturn the result of the vice presidential elections in May won by Robredo.
Likewise, the tribunal required the parties to submit a memoranda on the various issues relating to the jurisdiction and other matters relating to the annulment of election results for vice president in the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Basilan and Maguindanao within 20 days from receipt of the notice.
Marcos wants the elections in the three Mindanao provinces annulled due to terrorism, intimidation, harassment, and alleged ballots that were pre-shaded.
Justices Antonio T. Carpio and Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa dissented on the decision for Presidential Electoral Tribunal Case No. 005.
In the case, Marcos chose Camarines Sur, Negros Oriental and Iloilo as pilot provinces where an initial determination of the grounds for the electoral protest will be made. The three provinces have some 5,417 clustered precincts.
