The Department of Interior and Local Government has identified 97 local government units (LGU) that failed to comply with President Duterte’s order to clear road and sidewalk obstructions within 60 days.
DILG Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III said Saturday in a radio interview that officials of the non-compliant LGU may face charges of dereliction of duty.
Densing said there was no reason to fail to comply with the directive.
“In other places they can clean their roads within 60 days only if they were able to properly mobilize their barangay,” he said.
“The order only requires them to do their job that the previous administration failed to do,” added Densing.
Of the 97 LGU, the DILG said 11 are from Region I, one each from Region II and III, seven from MIMAROPA, 10 from Region V, one from Region VI, 12 from Region VII, nine from Region VIII, 18 from Region IX, 13 from Region X, three each from Region XI and XII, and four each from XIII and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Overall, Densing said the clearing operations conducted by local government units were satisfactory.
He said the DILG has ordered police to help maintain cleared roads unobstructed.
