The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is investigating the death of a 20-year-old cadet, a suspected victim of hazing.

Initial investigation revealed that Fourthclass cadet Darwin C. Dormitorio succumbed to cardiac arrest secondary to internal bleeding on 18 September. He complained of stomach ache early Wednesday and started vomiting inside their barracks.

PMA spokesperson Major Reynan Afan said it’s pissible Dormitorio may have been a victim of hazing.

“Looks like hazing may be the cause of death,” Afan said.

PMA mourned the death of the young cadet and assured the public that “every cadet’s overall wellbeing is constantly and systematically being considered in every aspect fo education and training.”

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11053 or the “Anti-Hazing Act of 2018” in 2018 which prohibits all forms of hazing, including during military training.
