Espino was aboard his Toyota Innova with his aides when unknown assailants fired at them last Wednesday, 11 September.

Lawmakers on Thursday condemned the ambush of their former colleague from Pangasinan, Amado Espino Jr.

“The House under Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano condemns in the strongest possible terms this attempt on the life of Congressman Espino in Barangay Magtaking in San Carlos City that killed at least one of his bodyguards,” Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte said in a statement.

“Such murderous act has no place in our society, especially under this Administration that has won broad and deep popular support because of its tough stance on crime,” Villafuerte added.

Espino was aboard his Toyota Innova with his aides when unknown assailants fired at them last Wednesday, 11 September.

One of his aides, Police Staff Sergeant Richard Esguerra, was killed on the spot.

Villafuerte has called on the Philippine National Police to immediately track down and apprehend those behind the ambush.

He said the House leadership is ready to extend any form of assistance to Espino’s family.

Magsasaka Rep. Argel Cabatbat likewise condemns the attack against Espino.

Cabatbat said he expects members of the PNP to apprehend the immediately the suspects.
