A military official expressed hope that they can convince more local officials and the people of Mindanao to actively take part in the campaign against loose firearms and illegal drugs and end violence in the area.

Army Col. Facundo Palafox, the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander, made the remark after gracing the turnover by local officials of 19 high-powered firearms to the troops of the 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion at Munai Municipal Hall in Lanao del Norte last 6 September.

“We encourage not only the local government units but also other stakeholders, especially the people of Lanao del Norte, to trust and support our campaign against loose firearms for us to attain a peaceful and secured province towards its faster development,” Palafox said.

Lt. Col. Bernardo Taqueban, 4th Mech Inf Bn Commander, said the handover was a result of the intensified collaboration and concerted effort of local government units, stakeholders and security forces.

He said local officials yielded during the turnover one caliber 50 Barrett, one M14 sniper, eleven M16A1, two Carbine, and four Garand rifles with magazines and ammunition.
