A Special Forces-trained senior officer assumed command of the Philippine Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade during a ceremony held in Oriental Mindoro on Monday, 26 August.
2nd Infantry Division Commander Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. presided the formal transfer of authority, responsibility and accountability from Brig. Gen. Marceliano Teofilo to Col. Antonio Lastimado at the turn-over rites held at Barangay Pag-asa, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.
In his speech, Burgos commended Teofilo for the “headways which his troops and units recorded during his almost 10-month tour of duty” brought about by the “decisive engagements, NPA mass surrender and neutralization of key terrorist personalities.”
According to Burgos, Teofilo will be designated as his Assistant Division Commander, thus, “his wisdom and expertise will be felt not only in MIMARO (Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblo) but also in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
A “Military Merit Medal Interim to Distinguished Service Star” was also conferred to Teofilo for meritorious achievements in a position of major responsibility.
Lastimado, a native of Leyte, served as the 203rd Brigade’s Deputy Commander prior to his assignment as Brigade Commander.
