Broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez, actress Ara Mina, Sponge Cola frontman Yael Yuzon and sought-after TV host Rovilson Fernandez are among the celebrities scheduled to participate in Resorts World Manila’s (RWM) Run With Me X charity fun run this Sunday, 25 August, at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Now on its fourth year, this year’s edition of the annual event coincides with Resorts World Manila’s 10th anniversary. Since the year it was organized, Run With Me was able to raise millions for its numerous beneficiary organizations.

Last year alone, it was able to raise a total of P3.5 million from over 5,000 participating runners for beneficiaries that included YESPinoy Foundation, HERO Foundation, Right Start Community Development Inc., Empowering Brilliant Minds Foundation, ERDA Tech Foundation and EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation.

This year, five charity beneficiaries will share proceeds from the five celebrity-led teams. They are Right Start Community Development, Inc. for the Red Team led by Korina Sanchez, Gian Magdangal, OJ Mariano, and Myke Salomon; HERO Foundation for the Yellow Team led by Jeffrey Hidalgo, Norman Pascual, and Neil Perez; Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. for the Green Team led by Ara Mina, Chuckie and Yen Dreyfus, Polo Ravales, and Paulyn Quiza; ERDA Tech Foundation for the Blue Team led by Yael Yuzon, Jana Victoria, Will Devaughn and Jay Kent; EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation for the Orange Team led by Rovilson Fernandez, Meg Imperial, Ray Gibson and Ronnie Liang.

Korina Sanchez is looking forward to her participation. She thinks that being a part of Run With Me X is both “extra thrilling and extra fulfilling” for each participant. “You get to be fit, you get to do health and wellness and you get to help other people,” she says.

Her Red Team’s beneficiary, Right Start Community Development, is co-founded by a celebrity, singer-songwriter and former lead singer of Moonstar 88, Acel Bisa van Ommen.

“Our organization provides creative caring spaces for disadvantaged children aged 4 to 14 years old. This is our second time to be chosen as one of Run With Me’s beneficiaries. Last year we finished in 4th place. But we are all winners because the proceeds we get is a big help to what we do while also creating awareness for our advocacy,” Acel, who also vowed to run, told the Daily Tribune.

Another returning beneficiary for this year’s fun run is the Yellow Team’s HERO Foundation, an organization established to help the families of soldiers who are killed in the line of duty.

“We’re very thankful to RWM because it is really a big help for the orphans’ education as we were able to increase the stipends we provide for the elementary and high school students,” said General Victor Bayani, executive director of HERO Foundation of last year’s run.

For actors Polo Ravales and Ara Mina of the Green Team who are running for Tahanang Walang Hagdan, there is no greater feeling than running for a good cause. “You help out while you work out and achieve total wellness,” Polo points out.

“The biggest hearts go the extra mile to run for love,” Ara adds.

Actress Jana Victoria of the Blue Team notes that another reason why Run With Me X is very special is because it is also an “Earth-friendly run.” “We are going to do our part in managing waste materials by eliminating single-use cups since reusable tumblers are already included in each participant’s race kit,” she further points out.

The Blue Team’s beneficiary, the ERDA Tech Foundation is likewise thrilled to be a chosen again as a recipient of the race’s proceeds.

“This is a tremendous help to a lot of poor kids who want to finish their studies and get jobs after,” Mark Magsalin, principal of Fr. Pierre Tritz, ERDA Tech Foundation in Manila, says.

Singer Ronnie Liang of the Orange Team running for EPCALM Adult Leukemia Foundation says he is participating in this year’s run because he wants to “be a good example and run for charity.”
