Phoenix Pulse formally denounced the actions of Calvin Abueva, who is in a very challenging stage of his life after being accused of physical abuse and infidelity by his wife.
He can step up and accept responsibility for his actions and take responsibility for his recovery — it’s his choice
In a statement, the Fuel Masters said they will continue providing emotional support to Abueva, but nobody can straighten his path but himself.
Abueva is mired in controversy for the past couple of months after being slapped with an indefinite suspension by the Philippine Basketball Association.
Before being assessed with a Flagrant Foul Penalty 2 on TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones, Abueva had a verbal altercation with Maika Rivera, the former tennis player and girlfriend of Blackwater rookie Ray Parks.
Then, while serving suspension, he was caught playing in a ligang-labas, prompting the Fuel Masters to call his attention.
And now, his wife, Sam, is accusing him of infidelity and physical abuse after he hurt her and their children. In one instance, while Sam was pregnant with their fifth child, Abueva pinned her down, prompting her to be rushed to the hospital due to severe bleeding.
Abueva fired back, saying that his wife’s allegations were not true.
The Fuel Masters feel that it’s about time for Abueva to straighten his path.
“The responsibility and cure for his behavior rest on Calvin,” the Fuel Masters said in a statement. “He can step up and accept responsibility for his actions and take responsibility for his recovery — it’s his choice.”
“As an organization, the Phoenix Fuel Masters does not stand for any form of violence or other behaviors that violate the trust and values we have in common with the entire Phoenix family, our Fuel Masters fans and out great game of basketball.”
The club said it is still closely monitoring the situation.
