Following the peaceful atmosphere after the fourth State of the Nation Address (SoNA) of President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) downgraded the alert status of Metro Manila from full alert to heightened security.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) P/Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the full alert was lifted after 9 p.m. after not receiving any report of untoward incidents.
“So far matahimik naman. Wala naman tayong na-monitor na mga untoward incidents,” Eleazar said.
He added it is up to other regional offices to downgrade the security alerts in their areas.
Eleazar rated the SoNA as “very peaceful” and commended militant groups for their cooperation.
The PNP deployed 9,162 cops and force multipliers to secure the vicinity of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
Sr. Supt. Bernard Banac, PNP Public Information Office chief, said mass actions carried out by cause-oriented groups and other militant organizations were conducted peacefully and dispersed voluntarily.
“The PNP remains vigilant to prevent occurrence of crimes and is ready to respond to any emergency or call for assistance,” Banac assured.
