TADIANGAN, Tuba, Benguet—Hedcor, a power-generating company, gathered youth volunteers, village officials and members of the media to plant more than 6,000 assorted tree seedlings in various parts of the Cordillera and Ilocos Sur early Saturday.
Luzon Environmental officer Cranep Udan said it was part of the nationwide tree-planting activity of the Hedcor Group of Companies. They will plant around 95,000 seedlings, 6,000 of which will be in Northern Luzon.
Udan said that 2,200 trees were planted in Tadiangan, Tuba; another 2,000 in Sabangan, Mountain Province; 1,500 in Bakun, Benguet; and 500 in Ilocos Sur. She said that most of the trees are fruit-bearing ones so that the community will have harvests in the future.
Udan said Hedcor aims to have two million trees by 2020, earning praises from the Benguet Provincial Environmental Officer.
Hedcor is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AboitizPower. It specializes in generating renewable energy from run-of-river hydropower systems. It currently manages and operates 22 hydropower plants and supplies the country with 185 megawatts of renewable energy.
