Balintawak market was cleared of garbage, sidewalk vendors and illegally-parked vehicles on Tuesday upon the order of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
Personnel from the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD) and Quezon City Police District joined QC hall staff in the operation that began 4 a.m.
Vehicles were towed and drivers issued tickets while vendors occupying the sidewalk were asked to leave. MMDA and local government personnel also collected garbage.
Vendors were offered a free livelihood training at TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority).
