The world’s biggest and most affordable book sale, Big Bad Wolf (BBW) Book Sale, is coming to the cabalens’ turf from 12 to 22 July and will be open 24 hours at the LausGroup Event Center in San Fernando, Pampanga. As with the previous BBW sales, admission is free.
Among the things to watch out for is the wide selection of brand-new reading materials including young adult fiction, science fiction, children’s and activity books, romance, bestsellers, crime thrillers, business, self-help, design and architecture at 50 to 90 percent off their regular prices.
“We believe that knowledge is not a privilege. We believe that education should not be a privilege. We believe that the books should not just bring knowledge but, at the same time, it creates, it inspires, it empowers. So, all we need is a dream especially for someone who has nothing. We believe in the power of books. The whole mission of BBW is to change the world one book at a time,” said BBW Book Sale co-founder Jacqueline Ng.
BBW Pampanga will also introduce six more augmented reality (AR) books, or what they call “Magic Books,” and those who wish to see their beloved children’s books again will have first dibs on them. Some of the new AR titles are Cinderella, Old Macdonald’s and Wheels on the Bus.
“We, Filipinos, are known for being family-oriented. We are bringing the AR books which we call the Magic Books wherein, a certain kid, while having this book, the characters will come to life. A child could dance or sing along with the book and they will have their parents or siblings with them,” said BBW country manager Narisa dela Peña.
With its vision to change the world one book at a time and promote reading culture, BBW, through its charity initiative Red Readerhood, has partnered with Gawad Kalinga (GK) since its first visit in the country. Book Sale visitors can contribute to GK by purchasing a book from the charity’s booth at the sale.
“Through our partnership with BBW, we are able to inspire and empower members of the GK communities by giving them an opportunity to learn through the platform of the BBW Book Sale. At the same time, the Book Sale gives out communities a livelihood opportunity because they also serve as on-the-ground Book Sale staff,” GK executive director Luis Oquiñena said.
“We are looking forward to expanding the reach of the Book Sale to more provinces in the Philippines so we can encourage more people to read; hence, why we are organizing the Book Sale for the first time at Pampanga. By making brand new, affordable English books more accessible, especially to underserved communities, we will be able to cultivate a generation of readers that can help drive the country forward,” Ng added.
Wolfies can get a chance to participate in an exclusive VIP day on 11 July by scoring tickets through contests in their Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/bbwbooksphilippines/) and Instagram (@bwbooksph) pages.
