With the country set to celebrate Independence Day on 12 June, Shangri-La Plaza is putting the spotlight on Filipino talent and creativity for the entire month of June with “LIKHA,” a collaboration of the brightest talents for cultural diversity.

The festivities include the exploration of the country’s rich heritage. Starting from 1 to 13 June, the “Pamana” Exhibit showcased stunning photos that recall our roots, from national landmarks to heirloom culinary traditions.

It will feature the works of Jan Aliling, Bien Bautista, Paolo Antonio Buendia, Josefino Mario De Guzman, and Maria Victoria “Kakai” Manotoc Arroyo at the Luxury Lane, Level 1, East Wing.

Aside from that, the event will also display the country’s native products with the amazing popup event Filipino Flavors & Fabrics from 4 to 9 June at the Grand Atrium to take home wonderful products from community vendors, indigenous peoples and women micro-entrepreneurs, and also to support women producers all over the country.

Folk dance company Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe will move to the voices of Song Weavers Philippines at the Grand Atrium.

As for music, the historical holiday will be marked with a special musical collaboration as musician Noel Cabangon teams up with the Manila String Machine for “Malaya: An Independence Day Concert” on 12 June at the Grand Atrium, while a traditional folk fest will commence “Alay“- a rich and colorful display of Filipino folk tradition that will be spearheaded by folk dance company Lahing Batangan Dance Troupe as it moves to the voices of Song Weavers Philippines on 15 June at 7 p.m. also at the Grand Atrium.

Ballet Philippines, on the other hand, will come up with its most celebrated pieces with “Celebration” featuring Tales of the Manuvu, choreographed and written by National Artists Alice Reyes and Bienvenido Lumbera, and other masterpieces on 22 June at 7 p.m. at the Grand Atrium.

Meantime, visitors can shop for unique local finds as two great fairs come to the Shang from 28 to 30 June as the HABI Market Fair offers mall guests beautiful handcrafted products from Kalinga, Ifugao, Mindoro, Basilan, and more at the Grand Atrium, while “Piling Pinoy” at the East Atrium has everything from furniture, art, food and fashion.
