Business processes outsourcing (BPO) company Sykes Philippines scored a twin-kill as it asserted its dominance on the hardcourt in two separate leagues over the week.
Sykes turned back the opposition in the Recreational and Recreational Plus divisions of the men’s basketball tournament of the BPO Classics Conference held recently at the Phenom Sports Center in Makati City.
Following the Makati victory, Sykes presence was felt in Cebu as the Sykes Cebu Pioneers also clinched the title in the City Sports Club-Cebu’s (CSCC) E-League Basketball Tournament at the CSCC Gym.
Both touted as heavy favorites in both tournaments, the Makati and Cebu Sykes squads routed their opposition one after the other to emerge victorious in the tournaments.
The Sykes Recreational Division squad plastered IQVIA, 73-67, for the crown, while the Sykes Recreational Plus Division turned back second seeded Sitel with an upset win.
The Makati Sykes team saw Michael Mostrales and Renan de Leon walking away with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards for the Recreational and Recreational Plus divisions, respectively, while Jerson Moriska (Recreational) and Noel Rivera (Recreational Plus) were named Best Players of the championship games.
Over at Cebu, the Sykes Pioneers team had to force a do-or-die game in their best-of-three series against Accenture to have one more shot at the title in the Elite Classic Division and snap the Pioneer’s 14-year title drought.
The Pioneers’ Victor Manuel Rabat emerged as one of the MVPs, while Jan Michael Auditor bagged both the MVP and the Rookie of the Year honors — becoming only the third player to do so in league history.
Sykes strong showing in the Inter-BPO tournaments is also credited for its “Work. Learn. Grow” mantra, which extends outside the office.
