Luzon grid under yellow alert

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) was pressed today to order a rebate and to fine power plants for their forced shutdowns in the past weeks.

A party-list group warned that more power rate hikes may ensue because of the power plant shutdowns despite the brownouts.

Consumers have noted an increase in their electric bills because of being charged higher for the replacement power supply.

The party-list group reiterated its demand that the ERC and the Commission on Audit review how power rates are set.

It slammed the ERC for its “current silence” on the power plant shutdowns and brownouts.

“Where have the ERC chairperson and commissioners been all this time? Are they insulated from the brownouts? Are they insensitive to the hardships of consumers?” said the group.
