Sara empowers women through livelihood

Magnegosyo ‘Ta Day, a program for women initiated by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has continued to empower them by providing livelihood through grants to start their business.

The mayor launched the program because she believes that women economic empowerment is central to realizing their dreams of attaining gender equality.

She added that if women truly wanted to be empowered, they must have their own sources of income and not merely rely on their husbands.

“They can’t make a decision if they don’t have their own resources. But if they have their own money, they enhance their self-worth and they can make independent decision,” she said.

The program seeks to reach out to all marginalized women who were victimized by poverty and injustice, help them reintegrate into the mainstream economy and become productive and empowered citizens of the city.
