Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) franchises San Miguel Beer, Alaska, Ginebra and Purefoods parade their seniors as they relive their good old days tonight for the “Return of the Rivals” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Former teammates turned rivals Robert “The Living Legend” Jaworski Sr. and Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez take centerstage as head coaches of Ginebra and Purefoods, respectively in the epic Manila Clasico main game at 7 p.m.
Before that, two of the league’s most successful squads the Beermen and the Milkmen, also rekindle their ’90s rivalry in the first game at 4:30 p.m.
Organized by the PBA Legends Foundation, these games will serve as charity events for retired pro-league players who are in need of medical services.
Jaworski and Fernandez teamed up for one of the most legendary connection in Toyota in the 1970s and early 1980s.
The two parted ways after the PBA departure of Toyota and rival Crispa in 1983 and 1984, respectively.
The former Senator Jaworski then joined Ginebra in 1984 as a playing coach while now Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Fernandez played for Manila Beer and Tanduay before landing in expansion franchise Purefoods in 1988.
Leading Fernandez’s Purefoods squad is four-time MVP Alvin Patrimonio together with Jerry Codiñera and Ronnie Magsanoc who are all members of the prestigious 25 PBA Greatest Players.
